Reasurch Paper

synchromasound: In the past, we used to have a grading system where 20% of your Unit 1 mark would be the research paper, and 80% your studio practice. But now the Unit 1 mark is a holistic judgement, so I want you to think of the research paper not like a box to tick or a hoop to jump through, but more like a vehicle for you to develop as an artist

synchromasound: It’s a good idea to focus on specific movements or artists rather than trying to create a grand, sweeping narrative

synchromasound: You may find by digging deeper a particular film-maker or group of film-makers that have a clear discourse about colour. Be specific in the end…

NB,

Take a movement and use it to investigate another movement?

Allister Clark: is it possible to write a paper which concludes that there is NO modern day application of expressionism in film?

synchromasound: A contextual understanding of a movement can be useful…

synchromasound: I think you have to remember that this research paper is for you to critically engage with an area of artistic practice and/or philosophy

synchromasound: So choose a research question with some substance

synchromasound: Citations will be used in your academic writing, so what do other voices say about the area of research, particularly those of artists themselves…You will be framing your arguments with citations of others
